Paint at Home
Why not try painting ceramics at home?
All our Bisque shapes and OPUS underglaze colours are available for painting at home. Painted items can be returned to your chosen studio for glazing and firing.
The process in short – Purchase bisque and colours in the studio. Paint them at home then return for firing in the kiln.
- Visit your local studio.
- Choose the bisque you wish to paint from the shelves.
- Take them to the studio counter.
- Look at the colour racks and decide which colours you would like.
- We will prepare the colours (this will take a few minutes) and wrap the bisque.
- Pay for the colours and the Take Home to Paint cost.
- Paint your items at home.
- Return to the studio with the painted items.
- Pay the Return for Firing cost per item.
- Return to collect your finished item(s). View the studios firing schedule. See each studio page for their weekly firing schedules.
- Job done, enjoy your creations.
A few very important things:
- The bisque can only be painted with the OPUS underglaze paints purchased from the studio.
- The OPUS underglaze paints are craft products and classified as Non-Toxic for craft use. Keep your work area clean and DO NOT get colours in your mouth or eyes.
- Keep the bisque surface and your hands clean from oily substances at all times.
- Sketch any designs using the Sketching Pencils purchased from the studio only. Other pencils may resist the glaze or not burn off in the kiln firing.
- Unwanted Sketching Pencil or painted colour (once fully dry) can be removed with a white rubber eraser.

Take home colours are available in 60ml (£4.50ea.) sample flip top pots.
The 500ml (19.60ea.) pots are available on special order from our warehouse.
Natural hair and synthetic haired brushes are available for purchase. Natural hair brushes work the best but need to be treated with care. Synthetic hair brushes are more robust however do not allow the colour to flow as well. You may already have brushes at home to use.

Wash all brushes in warm water prior to use.
Sketching pencil – £2.40ea.
Plan your design. Burns off in the glaze firing. Please do not use any other pencils or drawing aids on the bisque surface. They may not burn off and could resist the glaze when fired.
Underglaze Pencil – £9.80ea.
Permanent pencil. Use once all your painting is finished and dry. Sharpen with a sharp knife, not a sharpener. Smudges easily handle with care.
